Zen practice in the Open Source tradition centers on meditation, koan practice, and community. We are a group of lay practitioners, and we take up our Way in the midst of work, family life, and all the complications of being human in this time.
The Open Source is a group of four connected practice communities in the Western US. We offer meditation groups online and in person most days of the week. We also offer study groups, classes, retreats, and other practice opportunities.
Our practice centers on Zen meditation, in blocks of 25 minutes, with walking meditation in between. We often sit with koans and take them up in community conversation after meditation. We offer a koan culture, in which we value kindness, creativity, not knowing, deep inquiry, and skillful action as a part of everyday life. Some of our members also take up a personal koan practice with a teacher, and meet periodically with their teacher to discuss their responses to koans.
We value diversity in our sangha and strive to be inclusive and equitable. All people are welcome at the Open Source.
